Habit Forming - Get Organised
Last issue we covered the physical set up of your home office. Well being organised is about systems AND behaviour. Both are essential to having a clear, clean smooth running & organised home office and life! That's why it's important to talk about behaviour and habits. Here are some great habits you can form to set you well on your way to an organised home office.
Be realistic The old adage ‘done is better than perfect' may not sit well with everyone - but what is the pursuit of perfection costing you? Time? Stress? Money? It can also stop you doing things. Have you stalled on sorting out your home office (or any other project) because you feel you can't make it ‘perfect'? Would you benefit from taking a step, just a small step, toward completion? Remember one step leads to another step, leads to a finished project. Acknowledge that you can have a great, well organised home office without it being your idea of ‘perfect'.
Be Time Wise Whatever you do in there: pay bills, run a business or simply send a few emails make sure you set clear time boundaries. You know how a few emails can turn into hours of surfing the net. And this can turn into hours of missed family time, lack of sleep and missed appointments. Schedule time to do things and keep the appointment with yourself. Use an alarm if necessary. It's a great way to be in control of your time, not the other way around.
Have a maintenance mentality Maintenance is inevitable. Think of it like your journey to fitness. It's constant. You can't go for a jog one day and be fit for the rest of your life! But the good news is, if you set up the right systems and form the right habits the maintenance will be easy. Small and regular blocks of time set aside to maintain systems in your home office will be of the most benefit.
