Hello [FIRSTNAME],
Happy New Year, I hope it's off to a great start for you. Over the break I read an article which mentioned Google's survey results of the top 10 new year resolutions. As you can imagine, right up there with getting fit, was getting organised! Why is it those two activities are always on our list of 'to do's'? One reason is that both of them, getting fit & getting organised, are processes. Once we take them on we need to maintain them. Yep, being organised is a journey, and just like getting fit, we can come up with lots of excuses to not even start! Can you relate to any of the classic top five excuses not to get organised?
Even OPRAH has an Organiser! You may have seen him? Peter Walsh, an Australian Professional Organiser who appears regularly on her show. He is highly experienced & respected in the industry and has written several books on organising. His tips for an organised kitchen are featured in the latest bestselling Kitchen YearBook. And GUESS WHAT?? Mine are right there with them!! See both our tips in the article here.
Top 3 tips to Reduce the Excuse Getting organised isn't the only thing we can find excuses not to do. Whether it's making that phonecall, buying that new piece of equipment or talking to your boss there is a range of ways we stop ourselves from moving forward. The next time you're feeling stuck on a particular task ask yourself these 3 questions:
- Why am I doing this?
- What will it mean if I don't do this? What will it mean today? In 6 weeks, 6 months, 6 years?
- What will it mean if I DO do it?
Getting clear on the 'whys' will allow you to commit to the task. It also dramatically increases your chance of success however big or small the task is. Be clear about your purpose, reduce the excuses and in those very famous words: just do it!

Did You Know? In Australasia there are industry standards for Professional Organisers. Last year I received the highest accreditation level: EXPERT ORGANISER. There are only about 15 Organisers with that level of accreditation out of an approximate 200 Organisers in Australasia. As in any industry, accreditation and standards are set to ensure professionalism, best practice and highest level of service to you, the client. Whenever you consider working with a Professional Organiser make sure they are an AAPO member and subscribe to the industry Code of Ethics.
Until next month... Yours in Organisation, Roz InOrder Professional Organising Service www.inorderorganising.com.au
