Hello [FIRSTNAME],
In 2009 travel is on my mind. Every month this year I have a business trip! So much travel is great fun, and staying organised is vital to keep sane and get the best out of every trip. Here are 4 of my favourite travel tips:
Roll, don't fold. Simple really. Creates up to 40% more space!
Create Checklists. Especially good for the infrequent traveller. Write a checklist to capture all the usual jobs you need to have organised when you're away (regular bills, neighbours to water plants,). Also create a checklist of what to pack. Of course the exact items you need each trip may differ, but use a list for the basics:phone charger, separately listed toiletries, suitcase lock. Checklists work especially well for the infrequent camping trip!
Use electronic reminders - or a 'When I return' checklist to ensure you remove all auto-responders.
And a great tip told to me by a veteran traveller recently: When packing, lay out all your clothes and all your money. Take half the clothes and twice the money!!
Read more travel tips. My next trip is to the USA to attend the 21st NAPO Conference. Yes, Professional Organising has been established in the States for over 20 years. Although very new in Australia, the industry is growing rapdily, with over 200 members in our professional body in 2009, compared to around 70, two years ago. It's a very exciting time to be part of this industry.
I found a great way to get alot of local, on the ground information about the places I will visit on TripAdvisor forums. They have dedicated in-country experts who are a wealth of information on the tiniest of detail: bus timetables, where to find the best bagel, and everything in-between. The posts from other travellers are also incredibly useful, not to mention the rest of the site which is packed with hotel deals, maps, reviews and just about everything else you need before you go.
So Bon Voyage to anyone else travelling now and Stay tuned to hear all about the latest & greatest organising products and trends from the other side of the globe.....
