Hello [FIRSTNAME],
Recently I met an international industry leader & successful business owner who told me she'd spent the last 12 months, by choice, sans mobile. Wow. Impressive I thought. Especially for such a successful entrepreneur and a Gen Y-er at that!
It reminded me of a book I read a few years ago, Not Buying It: My Year without Shopping by Judith Levine. A great read. Something I thought admirable, not necessarily do-able. But then I started thinking about the power of 'giving something up' - or letting go. The new energy it creates, the mental de-cluttering it evokes and the overall well feeling of being in control by consciously making a choice and not merely reacting or doing what we've always done.
So I created my own goal of giving something up. Yes, I am proud to announce that I have committed to a shoe-free year. Purchase of, that is. No shoe acquisitions, new or second hand, for the next 12 months. Exciting isn't it?? Why? Because I am:
- Breaking an old habit
- Acknowledging what I already have and being grateful for it (them!) &
- Creating & achieving a personal goal which in turn empowers me to move forward and achieve further goals
Yes, goals work like that. Why not try it? What have you been thinking of letting go and how will it benefit you? It may not be for a year, it may be one single action (do you really need all those old magazines you never look at?) I encourage you to join me. Let go of something & see what happens.
